VOWLS is proud to announce that we will be supporting Stones Throw artist (and our dear friend) KOUSHIK on tour this November. We will be opening each show with a VOWLS set showcasing new songs which we’ve been brewing in the studio for the past few months. We will also be playing with KOUSHIK who is performing songs from both of his incredible albums ‘Out My Window’ and ‘Be With’. This is the first live tour for Koushik who has been gaining notoriety as a DJ around the world since, well….. since we were in high school in Dundas!

Also, next Friday, OCTOBER 9th, as part of the Supercrawl and C+C Music Festival in Hamilton we will be debuting our set with Koushik on the Dr.Disc Stage (20 Wilson St.) at 7:30. The show is FREE so come down and check it out!

Vowls members will play synthfest as part of Alpine Continuum.

This group is a cosmic communication vessel created to inform the world about the eternal tones of the Triad Elders. It is our destiny to receive the code and share it with the good people of Synthfest.

Inspired by Ron Hardy’s disco re-edits, Michael Marranda’s revised literary texts and Richard Prince’s appropriated photographs, our film is composed entirely from footage taken from D.A. Pennebaker’s documentary on the 1967 Monterey Pop music festival. Instead of using the iconic footage of the performances, we chose to focus on the audience, the colourful participants who we feel are the real spirit of the film. Our edit of the film attempts to revise the demise and failure of 60’s counterculture by focusing on rhythm, participation and unity rather than spectacle and consumerism. The film has a completely new soundtrack by Vowls, which uses the tropes of 60’s psychedelic music re-contextualized as contemporary dance music.
